About 2 meter 50 cm from the stump, too early and the plant is not big enough yet. The next one won't be ready for at least 7-10 days.

Nobody else is complaining about the heat, but I will.

The whole spring we had temperatures that never got over 25C. Now we have 35C and inside the poly tunnels over 40C.

I don't have an automated watering system, and the plants are in shock.

The only one that is doing really good is the 1088 Zirkelbach 10 because it is outside.

Another year and another experience richer.

A perfectly formed 5 lobe female. The weather is perfect, the temperatures are at 20-25 in the greenhouse.

Tomorrow the opposite cross is planned.

4 lobes, weather is cold and will stay that way all week, not the best situation for the 2 fresh pollinations.

4 lobes, plant is still small but I pollinated it anyhow.

So, I have been checking my first 2 pollinations and all I can say is .....

I have never worked so hard during the off season to prep the patches only to see such lousy results.

I feel like crap right now. So many hours invested, this sucks.

Considering ripping everything out and planting potatoes.

Hope everyone else has a great season, I am done.

Somewhere I read ( I think on bp.com ) : Its not a sprint its a marathon.
If the first two pollinations didnt start, thats no argument to resignate. Think of the very hot weather and hope for better conditions. For the moment your patch looks better than these of 95 % of the other crazy growers, so come on and hang in !

1068 Andres 12 x Self 5 lobes

Benny, I have been growing giants for 11 years now, and I don't recall ever having all of my pollinations start off as bad as this year. Then on top of it all I expected that this would be a good year because of the preparation that I have done.

The first few pollinations I used 5-6 males for each, today I used 2, but to be honest i have no hope for it either.

1634 Werner 10 day 8, it should be at least twice the size.

Only positive is the shape and the position to the vine.



The next one on the 1634, will open tomorrow, I have 5 males from the 1068 Andres 12 to pollinate with.

Day 10, 1634 Werner 10, 18.5 in or 47 cm circ.

That is 11.5 in or 29.2 cm smaller then I expect to have.

The 1068 Andres 12 will be at day 10 tomorrow, and I expect it to be even worst.

Gonna be a long, slow growing season.

I got 4 females that i think are ready and 12 males that i think are ready.

this is like birth control.

tomorrow is our Independence Day, is this a good sign?

I am not sure, but since my national security agency is watching anyhow, i hope they wish me luck.
