Growers Diary 2009 -Big Rick-
April 4th
The planned line-up is 1370 Rose, 1378.5 Pitura, 637 Sanders, 547 Sanders*, and 792,9 Olsen*.
Everything is warm and ready to go.
Soaking the seeds-
In the pots ready to germinate.
I know I wrote Apr 5 on the labels. It really was Apr 4th I just wrote the wrong day down when I did it.
So the patch work is done, I just have to get the hoophouses built up.
Here is Lilian checking out my water tanks.

May 17thThe 1093.5 Hunt is a double/flat vine. I have been watering it very heavily hoping it grows out of it. It looks like it may be starting to work.
895.5 Hester*
1132 Vincent/McGill*
The two 637 Sanders fighting it out. Only one will live.
The 1378.5 Pitura, my best plant just starting to lay the main vine down nicely.
The 547 Sanders*

It was time to put the 1132* in the ground.
895.5 still in pot and awaiting its fate.
The 1093.5 was a double/flat vine that had worked itself out. Unfortunately, it has started to flat vine again.
Back on track here.
But now a triple vine with 3 of everything at each node.
The 2 637s.
The 547*s.
The 1378.5.

I decided to take pictures before weeding and watering this time because my camera lens keeps fogging up when I take pictures after watering.
The heavy watering of the 1093.5 Hunt may have worked. This method has been successfull for me in the past. It has now split into 2 main vines. I hope the new main will stay single now and not continue to double . I don't mind plants that double and work themselves out because it shows an aggressive nature. I also think the extra leaves early on help speed the plant up later.
The 637. Its a bit behind the others because it is in a shadier part of the patch. Yeah, I know the weeds look terrible. For some reason in this particular spot they grow like crazy.
The 547* is also a bit behind, likely because it is also in a shadier part of the patch.
The 1378.5 Pitura. What can I say. Its growing perfectly. I started burying vines and pinching out tertiaries today.

I cut off one the main vines on the 1093.5 Hunt. It is now growing normally. I am still thinking about going back and trimming some of the extra leaves and side vines. I will have to keep an eye on how that mix of side vines sorts itself out.
I decided to go with the 637 on the left and culled the one that was on the right.
I have also culled to just one 547*. I have cut them at the stump but left a couple of leaves on so that the roots live on allowing the mychorrizal funghi to continue to colonize.
The 1378.5 Pitura growing perfectly. A textbook plant. For reference, the house is 3 meters x 3 meters.
The 1132 Vincent/McGill*. I am glad I decided to start this one.
The 895.5 Hester*. Something definitely wrong with this guy.
